What I Don't Use As An Anxiety Specialist
(Or: Why some popular approaches don't work)

Are you wondering why I don't offer some of those trending anxiety management approaches that everyone's talking about? Well, buckle up - this might ruffle some therapeutic feathers.

Script Based Hypnotherapy (Or: Why your anxiety needs more than a bedtime story)

Look, if reading pre-written scripts at anxious people actually worked, we could just record them all and retire to the Bahamas. But your anxiety isn't impressed by generic relaxation stories - it's packed its bags and followed you to your "happy place", probably complaining about sand in its shoes.

Want to know more about why I ditched the scripts? Head over here for the full story.

Mindfulness Apps (Or: Why your anxiety doesn't care about your screen time)

Ah yes, mindfulness apps. Because nothing says "inner peace" quite like your phone pinging to remind you to be present.

Don't get me wrong - mindfulness itself isn't a problem. But trying to calm your anxiety with an app is like trying to put out a house fire with a water pistol. Your anxiety's been running your life like a demanding employer, and it's not going to let you retire just because you've spent 10 minutes listening to whale songs.

Generic CBT (Or: When one-size-fits-all actually fits nobody)

Generic CBT is like trying to fix a broken arm with a positive attitude. Sure, the worksheets look impressive, and who doesn't love a good thought diary? But your anxiety's far too creative to be contained by a few photocopied handouts.

You need more than

  • "Just challenge those negative thoughts!" (While anxiety reorganises your entire sock drawer at 3AM)

  • "Look for the evidence!" (While anxiety presents a PowerPoint on everything that could go wrong)

  • "Make a pros and cons list!" (While anxiety adds seventeen footnotes about potential disasters)

What I Use Instead (Because You Deserve Better Than Anxiety's Employee Of The Month Award)

Better than these one-size-fits-none approaches, I use:

Ready For Something Different? (Because those apps aren't working, are they?)

Let's start with a free 15 minute chat. No scripts, no apps, no generic worksheets required.

Uninstall those mindfulness apps later
